Sun exposure, aging and other environmental factors all lead to the onset of unwanted pigmentation, freckles and dark spots. Also known as pigmented lesions, these signs of skin damage are caused by the abnormal amounts of melanin production in the melanocytes that lie in the skin. There are three main types of pigmentation: epidermal, dermal and combination. Epidermal pigmentation only occurs on the outermost or epidermal layers of the skin, while dermal pigmentation is found in the deeper dermal layers. Combination refers to pigmentation in both the outer and inner layers of the skin, such as melasma.
At Dr. Midas, all three types of pigmentation are taken into consideration before treatment. Laser and IPL technology allows us to target and rid of excessively pigmented cells without damaging the normal colored tissue surrounding it. The procedures generally consist of administering energy into the affected areas to break up the pigmentation and have the body naturally eliminate the unwanted tissue. Although popular remedies such as retinoids and other bleaching agents grant faster results, they are harsh to the skin and only solve the pigmentation at the visible surface layer of the skin. Laser and IPL technology allow for the source of the discoloration within the skin to be remedied through a series of short treatments.
Costs will vary upon the scope and length of treatment. A written quote can be provided upon professional consultation at one of our clinics.
